Through rigorous testing and accumulating feedback from all over the web, we’re happy to share with you a “peer-reviewed best shower heads list”. Many of these shower heads cost $15 to $50, but we’ve included options that speak to everyone.
Best Shower Heads Reviews 2019
The best shower heads available right now come with distinctive features and varying specifications. Most models are competitively priced so you should look for that one special shower head that catches your interest.
Some things to take into consideration include:
- What’s the gpm rate? Simply, the “gallons per minute” (GPM) is the flow rate of the shower head. The higher the number the greater the water pressure. Since 1992, 2.5 GPM has been the flow rate limit for newly produced shower heads — as per the requirements laid out in the Energy Policy Act (USA only). Some shower heads contain lower GPM levels and don’t even have removable water savers. Therefore, you need to be cautious when comparing the flow rates of different shower heads.
- Is it fixed or portable? When you want true high pressure, a fixed shower head will be your best bet. These fixtures will sometimes come with a removable flow restrictor — taking it off will significantly increase the water flow rate. Almost all fixed models also allow you to adjust the pressure to come out as you’d like, whether it’s a light mist or strong jet. Most handheld shower heads have turbo jet options but still cap at only a 1.5-2 GPM flow rate.
- Does it have LED lighting? One cool trend in modern shower heads is the LED water lighting feature. Is this something you want in your shower head? If so, be careful because many of these models are cheaply made. A gimmicky feature like LED lighting should not come at the cost of limited functionality and subpar performance.
- What’s the price? As much as we want to ignore cost, everyone has a max price they’re willing to pay. Shower heads are pretty cheap but you might not be in the market to spend $100 or more. Factor the above specs and features and see which one gives you the most bang for your buck if shopping on a tighter budget.
Now you have an idea on how to compare these products. So, it’s time for you to compare the best shower heads of 2019 and see which one truly resonates with you. Find our top choices below and take the time to read our in-depth analysis of each before you make your decision.

1. CLOFY 30-Setting Combo Shower Head – Best Budget Dual Shower Head
The biggest argument people make when choosing the best shower head is whether the #1 choice is a fixed or handheld model. Well, rest assured, because CLOFY’s 30-setting combo shower head gives you both options.
Our research on the best shower heads pointed us in many directions. Some people picked their favorites, but many had to debate between various fixed and handheld models. The truth is that both options provide limited functionality. It makes sense then, that a product combining the two would rank high up on our list.
CLOFY’s entry is an affordable combo shower head that has met all of our quality checks. No wonder it is a top-selling unit.
As you already would have guessed, this unit comes with 30 settings across its three functionalities (combo, handheld, rainfall). One mode that really stands out is “rain AIR pause”. Set your rainfall shower head to this mode while shaving or lathering to avoid fluctuations in the water temperature once it’s turned back on.
Other settings to choose from include: massaging spray, rain AIR, full spray with massage, full spray with rain AIR and full body spray. For the unaware — “rain AIR” is a calm rainfall effect powered by a mixture of air and water to create larger, softer water beads. We could go on and on about all the cool settings, but it’s probably easier if you just check out this nifty video.
Of course, buying a budget shower head does come with some drawbacks.
The shower heads are made from ABS plastic, but the included hoses are stainless steel. Is this really a negative though? Well, even-though ABS plastic is inherently less durable then an all metal construction, CLOFY’s product is exceptionally well made, so it shouldn’t be a problem. They even back up this quality with a 10 year warranty.
As far as budget combo shower heads go, CLOFY’s entry is as good as it gets. You may also opt to only purchase the heads separately, however it’s cheaper to get them together. Take it from us…we’ve tested and researched many units and read countless reviews of products that have simply fallen short. CLOFY is a proven name in this market, and we’re confident this product is worth the investment.
2. SomovWorld Rain 6” Shower Head – strongest water pressure of all fixed shower heads
Everyone loves a high-pressure rainfall shower head. SomovWorld’s product stands out because the water pressure potential is astronomical.
Users can conveniently remove the flow restrictor and achieve up to 7.62 GPM — three times the regulatory limit.
We tested and researched many fixed shower heads using three key variables – maxium GPM. overall durability and the head’s diameter, and the SomovWorld Luxruy Rain Shower Head hits the mark on every factor.
Much like our #1 recommendation, this shower head is only chrome-plated and made up of ABS plastic material. That’s not ideal but still acceptable as the reviews and tests we’ve conducted have proven it’s a durable product. The Teflon tape that’s included provides even more reassurance.
However, we’re not fond of the fact that you’re limited to only one setting. People like having options and being stuck with the same type of showering experience can make the product’s value wear off. Regardless, we understand the importance of a true high-pressure shower head supersedes the ability to play with options that many users simply won’t use.
We have to appreciate the simplistic nature of SomovWorld’s Luxury Rain shower head. This product doesn’t catch you with fancy features like LED lighting or dozens of settings. It’s a straight-up top contender in the “high-pressure fixed shower heads” category.
This is another budget priced shower head, but is almost double the price of CLOFY’s fixed model – which makes one wonder…Is it really worth buying this one instead?
The answer is simple. If you need a budget solution and don’t require a handheld shower head, you’ll do right with getting SomovWorld’s offering. It also offers a wider faucet which many customers desire. This means a more “rainfall-like” shower, like getting caught in the warm summer rain. You won’t get that same great experience with CLOFY’s fixed shower head as its diameter is 2.6 inches smaller.
3. YOO.MEE High-Pressure Handheld Shower Head – innovative technology that actually increases the water pressure in your shower
Manufactured by a brand that sounds like the name of a website, the YOO.MEE handheld shower head is often overlooked. Yet, as the current best seller in Amazon’s handheld shower heads category — we had to include it in our tests, and we’re happy we did.
The YOO.MEE was performance-tested by our experts. We found that its level of pressure goes beyond what similar 2.5 GPM shower heads offer. The secret seems to be their proprietary “2XP Turbocharging technology”, which internally increases flow rate. Practically, the pressure of your shower water could be limited yet the faucet would still provide a high pressure flow.
The YOO.MEE gives you two pressure controls — “Strong Stream” and “Water Conservation”. For maximum flow rate, select Strong Stream and watch the magic happen. This video will show you how intense the pressure gets when the 2XP Turbocharging boost hits.
We found ourselves even more in favor of YOO.MEE’s product as the manufacturer offers a 12-month warranty. The company will correct any quality issues that might arise during your first year of ownership.
Our goal was to find a recommendable handheld shower head that boasts both strong water pressure and various settings. The YOO.MEE is satisfactory in both departments. While not as powerful as SomovWorld’s Luxury Rain, it does give a similar high-pressure overhead showering experience. The holding bracket is adjustable for added control. You also have three settings to choose from, which are powerful, massage and mixed spray.
However; not everything is perfect.
It might seem picky, but, the three settings you can choose from are very basic. You’ll notice much greater versatility exists in CLOFY’s handheld shower head which costs less than $10 more to buy. CLOFY offers settings like rain AIR and rain AIR pause, which YOO.MEE does not. Even so, the greater pressure makes this handheld shower head the more appealing of the two depending on your situation.
We value products not for their promise but for their resilience. Our research extends past specs and into the realm of true consumer experience. When you look at what actual owners have to say about YOO.MEE’s high-pressure handheld shower head, does it truly deserve the title of No. 1 Handheld Shower Head?
Our conclusion is that, while some things could be done better, the extremely affordable price tag makes it unbeatable. You won’t find other options with innovative technology that literally enhances the pressure. Whilst YOO.MEE solves the low water pressure problem for many people, it’s still a fantastic shower head for the everyday user. It’s a revolutionary handheld shower head and meets all of our basic checks and then some, so we’re proud to put it near the top of our best shower heads list.
4. AquaDance 30-Spray Hand Shower and Shower Head Combo – a worthy combo shower head for under $25
AquaDance shower heads are very affordable. Their combo model, the “High Power Twin Shower System”, is priced below $25 and provides the same dual showering action as in CLOFY’s 28-setting combo shower head.
Right from the bat we love the multitude of options that AquaDance offers.
The head diameter is also marginally larger, and the flow restrictor can still be removed. Your purchase will also come with a limited lifetime warranty as well. The handheld piece can also run as a secondary overhead unit which gives you greater control over your water settings.
Clearly, this product isn’t a poor knockoff from CLOFY’s entry. However; to keep the cost low, we can see some corners that have been cut on AquaDance’s part.
You might find it best to replace it with a $6 – $10 stainless steel hose that’s more durable and longer. This way, you’re hitting two birds with one stone and in our opinion, it’ll justify negating the price difference over the slightly pricier combo unit from CLOFY.
There is another thing to be wary of – the angle of the heads doesn’t really adjust and, since they face downward, you’re left having to stand in a certain spot in your shower the whole time.
In all honesty, you can’t go wrong with investing in either CLOFY’s or AquaDance’s products if you need a dual shower head solution. They both are very well priced and have been received with overwhelming positive response by 1000’s of customers. Simply put, that many people cannot be wrong and you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t at least consider both offerings.
5. LORDEAR 12″ Square Waterfall – it’s like getting caught in the summer rain
People love the feeling of being fully submerged in water. LORDEAR’s 12″ square waterfall shower head is a beacon for consumers that didn’t know this luxury exists. With a faucet that’s literally a foot-long in diameter, this shower head is so big that there’s enough room for two people to wash their hair at the same time.
We only wanted to recommend an oversized faucet if it was durable and ready to perform. LORDEAR ticks both boxes and more, and stands out as a truly worthy recommendation in the 12-inches and up category.
Furthermore, we’d like to point out that LORDEAR doesn’t stop at 12 inches. If that wasn’t enough — for roughly $25 more you can go for their 16-inch model instead.
Be careful when installing LORDEAR’s waterfall shower head to an extender. You will need to tighten it in place as much as possible to prevent the head from tilting when in use. The strong water pressure of this shower head can lead to leaking issues if the connection is loose at all.
Sometimes having too much water and pressure is a bad thing.
The biggest concern is whether your home’s drainage system can handle the rate at which the shower water will try to drain out. Some users have even reported feeling that the downpour is overwhelming, intimidating and feels more like you’re drowning than enjoying a summer rainfall. We recommend you don’t run the shower with the tap all the way on — so, manually control the water pressure and flow to prevent all of these issues.
Is the 16-inch upgrade worth the extra money? You will be adding 4 inches worth of water coverage on each side of you. The extra space to cover results in an even greater expected GPM rate. You have to weigh out whether the impact on your home’s drainage system is an upgrade barrier. If you can’t handle the high GPM flow, going for an even larger faucet diameter will only work out if you accept a reduction in water pressure.
All in all, the most important question to ask yourself is if this is the type of shower head you desire. If you want something big and full body covering, then you can’t go wrong with the LORDEAR’s 12-inch square waterfall shower head.
6. KES LP150 Bathroom Handheld Shower Head – a rectangle-shaped water pattern that offers a massaging rinse
Firstly, a disclaimer: I actually own one of these!
Throughout our journey, we’ve tested a bunch of different shower heads and this one has to be one of my personal favorites because it’s so much different than the typical round shower head.
As with most showerheads, you can remove the “o-ring” flow restrictor, but we found the spray strength to be more than enough. Endless customer reviews will also confirm this.
The construction is pretty cool as well. It looks like a waterproof microphone, which brings a whole new meaning to “singing in the shower”. I won’t lie — it’s something I take a guilty pleasure in every time I shower. The included hose is also 6.5 feet which is 30% longer than the best handheld shower head in our list.
Furthermore; the adjustable mount is made with engineering grade plastics (ABS) which means it won’t be as sturdy as a stainless steel holder. However, most users report that it has stood the test of time and it’s actually adjustable. The 2.5 GPM flow restrictor (an “o-ring”) is also hard to get out — forcefully turn a screw inside of an opening and then use its hold as leverage to pull the ring out.
You need to ask yourself two questions when buying this product:
- Is the unique spray pattern worth it?
- Can you handle only one flow setting?
Heck, if you crave additional settings, you can always opt for a more advanced fixed shower head to complement your more simple handheld shower head.
Personally, the lack of settings didn’t bother me as — after using a similar shower head at a hotel — I realized this pattern really makes a difference. You’ll likely notice the same; don’t make any conclusions unless you’ve already used a shower head with a rectangle-shaped jet pad.
7. YOO.MEE LED Thermometer Handheld Shower Head – a shower head with a temperature display, perfect for babies & pets
YOO.MEE is an innovator in the shower head industry. Their handheld shower heads have always been well received by consumers and this product is no different. In fact, it even has a unique function – a built-in thermometer!
So you may ask yourself – “what’s the point of having a temperature display”. Well it turns out there are ideal temperatures depending on who is using the shower.
Similarly, you can set the water temperature to optimize for showering a dog or cat, a baby and even to promote a better nights sleep.
We’re giving this shower head the number 7 spot, behind the KES LP150, because the body is actually ABS plastic (brushed chrome). The higher quality stainless steel construction of KES’s shower head makes it slightly better. However, there’s no denying the greater aesthetics and functional appeal that this unit offers.
So overall this is a pretty good handheld shower head. It’s functional and cosmetically appealing. However; even though it may be useful to pet owners, seniors and parents with young children, we feel that the average consumer will treat it like a normal shower head after a few uses. In other words; it’s nice to have, but not something most people will desperately need.
8. AquaHomeGroup Luxury Filtered Shower Head Set – a water purifying shower head for healthier skin & hair
If you’re looking to pay a little more for your shower head, the AquaHomeGroup luxury filtered shower head set is a good option.
“Filtered?”, we hear you say! Yes, this shower head features a 10-stage filtration system, that purifies the water before it reaches your skin. It removes nasty things like bacteria, chlorine, pesticides, heavy metals and other impurities.
Practically speaking, if you live in an area where the water quality is poor (such as getting water from a well), the difference in using this system can be night and day. The positive reviews detailing the benefits of this shower head set are simply overwhelming.
A water purification system is just not beneficial for the user, as it also benefits the bathroom. Algae, mold and scale growth in the tub is thwarted as well as the black, slimy gunk that often affects shower heads (caused by oxidized manganese).
It’s a great feeling knowing that you don’t have to think about the dirtiness of the water that’s supposed to be used for cleaning yourself.
So we’ve mentioned the good things, but what are the not so good things? Well firstly; their seems to be somewhat of a leaking problem reported with some users. This could simply be down to how they’ve installed it. Our bet is that assembly can be a bit tricky as the high strength plastic filter needs to be attached to the metal shower head.
Another issue is that whilst the water pressure is adequate, there are no additional settings that can be tinkered with and the water restrictor cannot be removed. You’ll only have the swivel of the shower head to play with.
And lastly, the vitamin C cartridges only lasts an average of six months, based on the quality of water where you live. You need to replace them to ensure the filtration process remains effective. A replacement cartridge runs close to $20 meaning it can cost you more then the initial cost of the shower head just to keep using it.
You’re not just investing in a shower head (although one is included!), by buying the Health Care Shower System you’re making a lifestyle decision. This choice is arguably almost as important and justifiable as filtering your drinking water. Your skin comes in contact with your shower water all the time — it’s supposed to clean you — and, unfortunately, water quality in the US is far from ideal. The filtration system in this shower head will keep you at ease and allow for your skin and hair to properly rejuvenate every time you shower.
It’s still a smart investment. While not as important as filtering your drinking water, it’s true that impure shower water can have its own set of side effects. With a shower filtration system, you can also help curb acne, psoriasis, dry hair and more.
TIP Water filtration systems are a whole different ball game. We recommend you look at universal filters if this kind of product interests you. These particular filtration systems can be integrated into almost any shower head.
AquaBliss and Marggle are two popular examples of quality shower head filters that work universally with most heads.
9. badiJum Rain Shower System – a luxurious shower head combo found in spas & hotels
Remember number 6 here on our best shower heads list? It was the KES LP150, which I actually own. I mentioned that I went with it for the unique water pattern.
It was after using THIS shower system at a luxury hotel that I fell in love with the rectangle-shaped jets. While the LP150 is a nice and affordable alternative — the badiJum Rain Shower System is the real deal.
Yes this product will cost you more than $200 to purchase. That’s the kicker. On the plus side, the price includes the fixed 10-inch waterfall shower head, the handheld head and the 16-inch shower arm. All the materials are stainless steel, except the shower mixer valve which is brass.
Imagine having the best waterfall shower head combined with the most effective handheld shower head. The badiJum Rain Shower System gives you exactly that. The fixed head is a sleek 2mm and features Air Energy Technology (pressure boost + 30% water reservation). The handheld head is made with real stainless steel and includes a stainless steel holder and 59-inch hose.
The body and other parts are made with stainless steel. They also contain spot resist stainless finish. Everything keeps a clean and shiny look at all times. Nothing negative can be said about this product from a visual or physical standpoint.
The $200+ purchase price does act as a barrier for many consumers. Similar shower systems can be had for $50-100 but won’t be true stainless steel. This system also only comes with a 59-inch hose, which is pretty short so picking up a replacement could serve as an extra cost.
You need to decide whether the price-point is too high or not. Many consumers won’t “bite the bullet”, simply because they cannot justify spending this much on their shower fixtures. If you are remodeling your bathroom or have the budget — this badiJum luxury shower system is definitely a worthwhile investment.
This same shower system is available with a 8-inch waterfall head for $40 less if you’re interested but trying to limit the cost.
10. Speakman Icon S-2252 Anystream – a solid brass fixed shower head with strong water pressure
We’ve noticed one of the biggest complaints with cheaper shower heads is their ABS plastic construction. The shower system we just mentioned is an appealing alternative because it’s all stainless steel. However, Speakman goes a step further (solid brass) and is a shower head brand that’s known for its extreme level of durability.
You have six finish options — brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass, polished chrome, polished nickel and matte black. All finishes are coated onto the solid brass fixture. Check each of them before buying if you want to save money — prices range from roughly $65 to $105 depending on the finishing that you want.
The Speakman Anystream shower head fixtures are also available with either 2 GPM or 2.5 GPM flow rates. Most users opt for the 2.5 GPM model as it gives greater water pressure potential. However, the pressure from their heads is super intense — it’s perfect for anyone that thrives for the highest possible strength of water pressure.
Speakman’s Anystream brass shower head contains six jets with eight holes in each. Water shoots in every direction at a fast pace which creates a very massaging effect. The three different settings are Intense,Rain and Flood. All options feel great and come with a considerable level of water pressure.
Many users remove the flow restrictor to maximize the pressure. You might not feel this is necessary though. Take out the black o-ring only to test it without the restrictor. If the pressure is too strong you can put the ring back in its place. Once you take out the white plastic piece (which will increase the flow even more), it won’t be possible to re-install the restrictor.
This fixed shower head runs $65-105 which is pretty pricey for such a basic fixture. The higher cost is because it’s solid brass construction. Speakman also offers cheaper heads that look the same, but are made with ABS plastic — those units have a $35 to $50 retail price.
The slightly higher cost is well worth the investment is you want a top quality product. ABS plastic heads often hold up for a while but rarely last for years. A solid brass shower head will definitely survive the test of time. Speakman is a leading shower head brand and you won’t regret spending a little extra for one of their premium quality fixtures.
Buying Guide – How to Choose the Best Shower Head
Choosing the right shower head requires considering a few key factors. We covered some of them before reviewing the 10 best shower heads of 2019. Factors we addressed included flow rate, features like LED lighting price and type (fixed or handheld).
After reading through our top 10 picks you’ll likely have better knowledge on the differences between popular shower heads. We want to now address the most important variables in your purchasing decision.
#1 – Finding the Right Water Pressure
We mentioned at the start of this page that comparing flow rates is important. The problem is that most shower heads in the United States contain a flow restrictor. This mechanism caps the water pressure level at no more than 2.5 gallons per minute.
Don’t Jump to Remove the Flow Restrictor
It’s perfectly fine to shop with the intent of removing the restrictor. In most cases this decision is one you’ll be thankfully you made. However, you must evaluate the flow rate of the shower head with the restrictor taken out. Some restrictors do not go back in, which means you might be out of luck if the pressure is too intense. Even if you like a strong shower head, your home’s drainage system might not be able to handle the excess water flow.
Opt for Shower Heads with Natural Pressure Boosts
We recommend you choose a shower head with technology that enhances the water pressure at the faucet without requiring more water. Many fixed shower heads are available with air-infused water. This tactic creates a stronger pressure feel without making your shower demand more water from its supply.
For those that absolutely require a stronger shower head — “aerating shower heads” can save you an easy 30% on water consumption. Furthermore, you maintain control of the flow rate at the tap and don’t succumb to the powerfulness of the shower head.
#2 – Choosing the Right Material
Simply put, spending $50 or less will limit you to ABS plastic. This material is still durable if you buy from the right manufacturers. The problem is that it often doesn’t stand the test of time. A longer-lasting shower head will be made out of actual metal — most commonly, real stainless steel or brass.
Watch Out for Fake Metal – Only a Metal “Finish”
Be careful when comparing shower heads by material type. Many heads are labeled as a certain type of metal but it’s actually a metal finish over the engineering grade plastic. The $50 to $100 range can score you a full-metal shower head. The top quality options, particularly luxury shower systems, will run $150 to $250 and also come with actual metal.
Watch Out for Plastic Attachments & Accessories
Don’t focus only on the material of the shower head’s body. The hose needs to be stainless steel (the majority are) and the bracket holder is often worthless if it’s plastic. Even worse, some cheaper shower heads contain connector pieces that are made of plastic. These pieces easily break during installation — or after a few weeks or months of water pressure — which will leave you with a leaking shower head.
Solid brass is the more expensive route but definitely makes for top quality construction. Also, most brass shower heads are available with different kinds of polish. You could have a brass faucet that looks like nickel, chrome, etc.
#3 – Picking the Best Shower Head for Your Water
You cannot control the water that comes into your home. The potential setbacks of your water supply can mostly be curbed by choosing the right shower head. Below are some things to keep in mind when deciding which unit is right for your bathroom.
Fix Your Low Pressure Water Supply Issue
Are you buying a shower head for a camp, cottage or RV? Any bathroom with a weak water supply will consistently provide a poor showering experience. A shower head with a restrictor removed and a high flow rate will not do your shower justice.
The “aerating shower heads” we mentioned will naturally increase water pressure without demanding a greater flow strength. The best shower heads from our list that offer air-infusion technology are: 1. CLOFY 28-Setting Combo , 3. YOO.MEE 2X Turbo , 5. LORDEAR 12-Inch Square Waterfall , and 9. badiJum Rain Shower System — give them a look!
Consider your water quality when picking a material and finish
Water quality varies by location. You might prefer an ABS plastic shower head if your supply contains hard water. The plastic will not clog up and therefore you can prevent mineral accumulation. A metal shower head can also be clog resistant, but you’ll want one with a PVD finish.
Go for a Water Filtration Shower Head
The best shower head for low quality water is one with a filtration system. The 10-stage water purifying shower head from AquaHomeGroup (#8 on our list) is an affordable option. But, keep in mind, the filter will need replaced twice a year which makes it an ongoing expense. The benefits of a filtered shower head are vast. Some examples include more hydrated skin and hair, prevention of algae and mold growth in your tub and inhibition of acne, eczema, psoriasis and various other skin disorder.
